To make this brilliant design you first need to get a piece of rugged wood. Mike uses ‘pecky cypress,’ which is naturally damaged by a fungus that causes cavities, but any uneven type of timber will do. Then clean up the cavities and sand the wood until its completely clean and dust free. After that make a mix of clear casting resin, its catalyst and glow-in-the-dark powder, which comes in many colors (Mike used blue).

Next, pour the colored resin into the cavities and let it completely dry overnight. Clean up any excess resin, sand it and apply a durable glossy polyurethane finish. Then let it dry and charge it under the sun! For a step-by-step guide see the video above and check out Mike’s detailed instructions at Instructables here.
