Non-profit Architecture for a Change transformed a former shipping container into a chic coffee shop in Johannesburg, South Africa. Operated by Roast Re:public, the converted container coffee shop is lined with cork tiles made from recycled bottle cork waste. The unit was prefabricated in a design-build workshop and installed within just one day thanks to its “plug and play” design. In keeping with its motto “coffee with a conscience,” Roast Re:public employs and empowers young entrepreneurs from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to run the franchise.
