Portuguese stone ruins rise anew as a minimalist dream home

The respectful renovation is dominated by a stonewall facade that extends the old building's remains to form new living spaces. It was created from locally sourced materials including granite stones rescued from another local construction that had to be demolished. Today, the home receives plenty of natural light from the east side opening, and overlooks a courtyard complete with a pool.

While its old-time appearance was left intact, its interiors tell a completely different story. In contrast with its rough shell, they feature a sleek, minimalist décor with accent pieces. Classic Eames plywood chairs along animals' skins brings the white -- and otherwise cold spaces -- warmth, tactility and a rustic refinement.
